An English language edition of Touken Ranbu Online will become available for the first time ever on February 23, 2021.

Touken Ranbu Online is an online, free to play, turn-based, sword raising simulation game that centers around a sage who must battle an evil entity trying to alter history with the help of anthropomorphized swords that transform into heroic, sword-wielding men.

It has been dubbed a “Joseimuke” (geared toward women) game after it created a sensation in Japan due to its fanbase of women who were drawn to the game’s protagonist, fascinated by the Japanese history, and enticed by the beautiful male supporting cast. It now promises to make waves in the English-speaking gaming community.

The original Japanese version was released in 2015 and built an impressive fanbase of 1.5 million within a year. With this latest version, Johren is seeking to build on its already expansive number of users.

BACKGROUND

Touken Ranbu is a sword raising online simulation game featuring Touken Danshi (sword men), the historical swords. Players become Saniwa (sage) and materialize Touken Danshi, famous swords that have taken the forms of honorable warriors, to keep the historical timeline intact. The Saniwa’s mission is to gather eight types of Touken – Tanto (dagger), Wakizashi (side inserted sword), Uchigatana (traditional samurai sword), Tachi (traditional samurai sword), Otachi (large sword), Naginata (pole blade), Yari (spear) and Tsurugi (straight, double-edged sword), and create unique sword battalions to prevent the history revisionists from changing the past.

STORY

“The year is 2205.“

“Revisionists seeking to change history have begun to attack the past. To prevent such threats, the Chronos Ministry has sent Saniwa to each age. Saniwa, with the power to arouse an objects’ hearts and emotions, could bestow powers to fight and wield themselves. Thus, created as the Tsukumogami, Saniwa flies in the past with Touken Danshi to maintain the true history. The players become the Saniwa, and will materialize the Touken Danshi, the famous swords taken the forms of honorable warriors. Gather eight types of Touken — Tanto, Wakizashi, Uchigatana, Tachi, Otachi, Naginata, Yari, and Tsurugi. Create your own unique battalion and prevent the history revisionists from changing the past. Johren, the PC Gaming Platform that hosts the popular game, is opening up a month-long pre-registration period that begins January 26.

Players can pre-register on the official Johren site starting today until the game’s February 23rd release.

Any player who pre-registers will receive a number of valuable in-game bonuses such as:

• 200,000 units of Coolant
• 200,000 Whetstone
• 200,000 Charcoal, and Steel
• 100,000 units of Koban
• 30 Request Tokens
• 30 Help Tokens
• 1 Omamori
• 1 Brown Horse
• 1 Black Horse

Coolant, whetstone, charcoal, steel, request tokens, and help tokens are all resources that players can utilize when smithing or repairing swords. Each sword type will require different amounts of these resources.

The Omamori are charms used to prevent swords from being destroyed in battle.

Horses can be equipped to the swords to boost their stats.
