Otome Games in Nintendo Switch (English)

Hey folks and all you lovely otome gamers! I purposely made this post as an updated version of the previous one I did back in 2018 titled, Otome Games in Nintendo Switch (English) ~Old Version~. Just so we’re clear, this list will only include otome games that were localized and are currently available in the west. I’ll also make sure to update this list whenever we get new releases.

Looking back on what we had two years ago versus what we have right now, I’d say, for such a niche genre, we’re actually making good progress! From mobile ports to vita ports, and now we actually have new games announced exclusively for the switch alone! It makes me really happy to see a lot of support coming from everyone, both old and new otome fans! Nyaa!

The list below may not be up to par with the Japanese releases for very obvious reasons lol, but here’s what we have so far.

The Men of Yoshiwara: Kikuya

Comments: I personally, liked this game because of its *cough* steamy content and beautiful art. Some routes were great, while others were boring. It is a bit expensive though for a non voiced tittle.
Recommended routes: Kagura, Kagerou, Takao.

The Men of Yoshiwara: Oghiya

Comments: In terms of the game’s sound and mechanics, I find this one better than the first Yoshiwara series. Story-wise, I’ve only finished Takigawa’s route so I can’t really spell out any thoughts if this game was better than its predecessor. I do like Oghiya MC more than Kikuya MC.

The Charming Empire

Comments: The only two things I liked about this game were the voice actors and the artwork. The story was super bland and most of the routes ended in a rush.

Pub Encounter “Dandy Shot”

Comments: I kept putting this game down for some reason lol. I’ve been hearing a few mixed reviews regarding Dandy Shot (Pub Encounters). Most of the reviews were actually quite good, as long as you don’t mind romancing older men (chuckles). I’ve only finished Yuze Ryunosuke’s route, he’s the tsundere and his story wasn’t so bad.

Destiny Princess

Comments: One gripe I have for this game was that, because it was a mobile port the CGs on the Switch looked really weird and stretched. The game has an interesting prologue and I’ve actually enjoyed its steamy content.^^; I’ve finished three routes so far. Some were good, while others were meh.

The Amazing Shinsengumi

Comments: I’ve played the game’s prologue and it was boring as heck. I haven’t started a route yet but based on “hearsay” (otomearmada folks), this game apparently borders a bit on “rapey” scenarios? Haha if you’re someone who’s uncomfortable with that, it may be best to stay out of this game.^^;;

Ayakashi Koi Gikyoku

Chlo’s Rating: 3/10

Comments: This game had great voice acting. That’s it. The story was kinda sloppy that I couldn’t wait to finish it just to be done with it. I’m not sure if I’d recommend this game to anyone at all.
Recommended Routes: Akito (just cause Mamoru voices him lol)

Gakuen Club

Comments: This game wasn’t so bad. It had some good routes worth checking out and the art style was really beautiful. But since all the main characters were shotas, the game didn’t appeal to me as much.
Recommended Routes: Saku Takizawa, Toma Sakai

Iris School of Wizardry – Vinculum Hearts

Comments: I loved the game’s shoujo art style. Story-wise, it was mediocre at best. Some routes I kinda enjoyed while others left me all (σ_σ*). The heroine was also pretty spunky in this game so that’s a plus.

Kitty Love – Way to look for love

Comments: The game’s english subs needed proofreading. However, I was able to chug it all up because the story was so cute. The game’s art style, music, voice acting, and enjoyable stories were its redeeming qualities imo.

Nightshade

Comments: If you’re having second thoughts whether or not it’s worth shelling out 50 bux to get this game in your Switch Library. Here’s my advice: GET IT! If you haven’t played the game yet, this one’s definitely a gem. When it comes to the character arcs and story-line, I cannot recommend Nightshade enough! Ask other Nightshade fans and they’ll tell you the same thing! ha! (*´▽`*)

Enchanted in the Moonlight (Miyabi, Kyoga & Samon)

Comments: Haven’t really touched this game at all, even in mobile but I’d expect the story is just about the same quality as any voltage mobile otome game would have. This game series has a good amount of fan base though, so maybe that’s telling something? ┐(‘～` )┌

Comments: This is probably the first otome OELVN that has landed on the Switch Library. This game has an interesting premise and setting. To add up, it is fully voiced in english which is pretty cool. This is another title that I haven’t had the chance to play yet but is currently sitting in my backlog. lol

Comments: I believe I played Eisuke’s route (the CEO) in the mobile app way back. It was good steamy content to pass the time if you ask me… but the eyeless heroine turned me off.

Comments: This is the first Otomate title that was ported over to the Switch console. It’s also, one of the first otome games I’ve played in the Vita and I was sooo happy when I heard it’s finally coming to the Switch. Get this game if you can! You won’t be disappointed. I promise!

Code Realize ~Future Blessings~

Comments: This fandisc is an awesome sequel to the first Code Realize series. If you’re thirsty for more adventures with Cardia and Lupin’s Gang, take my advice and get this game! This fandisc will also feature Finis and Sholme’s very own routes.

My Secret Pets

Comments: I use to have the the mobile version of this game and I’ve only played Lufna’s (the cat) route. It’s alright. The story (for that one route) is kinda underwhelming. I might try and finish the rest of the routes one day (playing the switch version) and write a review but If you’re planning to get this game, maybe get Yoshiwara instead or get this when its on sale.

Closet Princess

Comments: Don’t be fooled by this game’s eshop decription as “voiced” because IT’S NOT! The game is partially voiced, by partial, I mean you’ll only hear the seiyuu’s yelps and grunts lmao! Honestly, not worth its full price! This game is also a straight up mobile port and nothing new has been added to it in the console version.

Our Two Bedroom Story

Comments: I’ve heard great things about this game back when it was first released in mobile. I never had the chance to pick it up though, as I was a bit skeptical and again, eyeless heroines really turns me off. Maybe I’ll give this one a go soon!

Collar x Malice

Comments: Collar x Malice is finally getting a switch port! This game is my absolute favorite otome title! The romance is pretty darn good, yes… but it’s actually the story that’ll leave you completely immersed! For the life of me, I recommend this game 100%! NOTE: This game’s switch port will be released this coming June 25, 2020

Aksys Announces Old and New Otome Titles coming to the West in 2020! (Nintendo Switch)

New Otome Game Titles Coming to the West in 2020!

The wait is over ladies! As of today (July 5, 2019), Aksys Games confirmed several Otome titles that will grace the West in 2020 for the Nintendo Switch console.

During Aksys’ Anime Expo panel, the company who’s known to localize famous Otomate brand titles, have confirmed four games they’ll be bringing to the West in the next year.

Here’s a list of what we’ll have:

CODE REALIZE: Guardian of Rebirth and Future Blessings

Code Realize: Guardian of Rebirth and it’s first fandisc, Code Realize: Future Blessings are finally getting a Nintendo Switch Port. First of all, I assumed they would just port the PS4 Game, Code Realize: Bouquet of Rainbows (which basically consist of the two games in a bundle), but it looks like Aksys will be having them on separate cartridges. The release date for the following Code Realize games are as follows:

Code Realize: Guardian of Rebirth – February 6, 2020
Code Realize: Future Blessings – April 23, 2020

COLLAR X MALICE AND COLLAR X MALICE UNLIMITED

The famous crime-solving otome visual novel, Collar x Malice is finally getting a Switch port. To those who are new to this game, CxM became very popular in the West due to its heart-pounding mystery type story-line topped with its alluring cast of characters that will definitely drive you at the edge of your seat.

The series’ first fandisc, Collar x Malice Unlimited is on its way too. Both games will be released this summer of 2020.

PIOFIORE: FATED MEMORIES

That’s right folks! This mafia themed otome game is finally coming to the West after getting a lot of well-received feedbacks from the Japanese market back when it was first released in 2018 for the PS Vita. The game’s original Japanese title was Piofore no Banshou but Aksys, has recently confirmed the game’s official English title as Piofore: Fated Memories. This title will have an end of the year release date in 2020.

Fun Fact: Piofore no Banshou’s first fandisc (Piofiore no Banshou – Episodio 1926) was recently announced during 2019’s Otomate Party in Japan. Hopefully the fandisc will make its way to the west too.

CAFE ENCHANTE

This one actually made me scream. (°◡°♡)

Cafe Enchante or Gensou Kissa Enchante (Japanese Title) was initially announced two years ago during 2018’s Otomate Party in Japan but it wasn’t until this year’s Otomate Party (2019) that we got to see more information about the game and it’s set of unique and interesting characters.

The game premise is about Kotone Awaki (protagonist) who inherits her grandfather’s cafe only to discover that none of the patrons are human.

Cafe Enchante will have an end of the year release date in 2020.

Fun Facts:

This game’s scenario writer is Nao Kojima, who’s notably known for his famous works: Hakuoki, Code Realize, and Variable Barricade.
The game’s head illustrator is the artist Yuuya. You’ll find some of her works very familiar if you’ve played the titles: Hanayaka Nari series, Dandy Shot “Pub Encounters” and Jakuo no Lyla.

New Nintendo Switch Otomate Titles for 2019 and 2020

Otomate has recently revealed a couple of upcoming new titles as well as new info and confirmed release dates of their previously announced games during the Otomate Party (2019) Event held in Tokyo International Convention Center, Japan.

There are currently twelve games (old and new) that were announced coming to the Nintendo Switch.

Spade no Kuni no Alice “Alice of the Spade Country”
Wonderful White World & Wonderful Black World

This new title is a revival of the Heart no Kuni no Alice series by Quinrose, now with the name Quinrose reborn under the Otomate brand. It’s predecessors, Heart no Kuni no Alice (2007), Clover no Kuni no Alice (2007), Joker no Kuni no Alice (2009), Diamond no Kuni no Alice (2012) were originally released as QuinRose titles in the Playstation Portable before the company went bankrupt in 2015.

CUPID PARASITE

Cupid Parasite is a love comedy otome game about a protagonist who’s a bridal matchmaker that’s also *secretly* a cupid (goddess) at the same time. Her goal is to help “five parasites” (five ikemens) who can’t find true love.

DAIROKU: AYAKASHIMORI

No further details have been revealed for this game, other than all the ikemens are “yokais” (non-human, demon/spirits). Seiyuus (Voice Actors) include Toshiyuki Toyonaga, Tatsuhisa Suzuki, Takahiro Sakurai, Yusuke Kobayashi, Ryouta Ohsaka.

Fun Fact: If you love the art for Bad Apple Wars, you will love this game’s character designs, as it’s created by the same artist Suou.

TOKEI SHIKAKE NO APOCALYPSE “CLOCKWORK APOCALYPSE”

Otomate teases us with a brief description of this new title as “A Story that starts with a Bad End”. Besides that, no further details have been revealed for this game yet.

PIOFIORE NO BANSHOU – EPISODIO 1926

This will be the first fandisc of 2018’s hit Otomate title Piofiore No Banshou. This fandisc will be written by Kazura Ringo and will be directed by Asahi Takamura. Both are the same screenwriter and director of the first game.

MEIJI KATSUGEKI HAIKARA

The game is developed and supervised by Ichi Column, the popular game studio known for their hit Hanayaka Nari series. No further details have been revealed for this game other than its setting will be in the Meiji Period (😂just like how the title gives it away lol).

Rejoice! Our favorite title, Amnesia Memories finally gets a Nintendo Switch Port. This game is confirmed to release September 12, 2019. Furthermore, the game’s first and second fandisc, Amnesia Crowd and Later, will also be making it’s way to the switch console. The bundled fandisc of Crowd and Later is set to release on October 3, 2019.

COLLAR X MALICE & COLLAR X MALICE UNLIMITED

OLYMPIA SOIREE

They’ve actually pre-announced this game during last year’s Otomate Party (2018). Sadly, this title’s release date was pushed back to 2020. The game was designed by the famous Japanese Illustrator Satoi who’s very popular for her famous works in Diabolik Lovers series, Re: Birthday Song series and Ozmafia.

BILSHANKA SENKI ~Genpeiden~

Just like Olympia Soriee, this game was also pre-announced during last year’s Otomate party (2018). Bilshanka Senki Genpeiden is a collaboration between Red Entertainment and Otomate. Its release date was also pushed back to 2020.

The story premise takes place around the Heian period during the civil war of Genpei (1180-1185), opposing the two clans Yorimoto and Taira. Most of the main characters are inspired by real personalities of the time. The heroine is the last daughter of the Minamoto and is named Shanaou, birth name of the famous General Minamoto no Yoshitsune.

Seiyuus (Voice Actors) include Makoto Furukawa, Soma Saito, Kengo Kawanishi, Yuichiro Umehara, and Jun Fukuyama.

Gensou Kissa Enchanté

New Patch Updates – Otome Games (Nintendo Switch)

Great news otome fans! Digimerce LLC has recently released patch updates for the following Nintendo Switch otome games:

Ayakashi Koi Gikyoku (patch update released last December 2018)
Iris School of Wizardry ~ Vinculum Hearts (February 26, 2019)

I believe a lot of us are already aware of the awful translations as well as the lack of proofreading on most of these Switch titles back when it was first released in the eshop last year. Thanks to all of your feedback as consumers, the game publishers themselves finally took action and fixed the translation mistakes of their games.

I must say, the English subtitles have greatly improved and these games should now be playable for everyone to enjoy. There’s still no news if they’ll be doing the same with “Kitty Love” but it is highly possible they’ll be fixing the translations for that game as well and soon.

Since the Vita apocalypse has finally dawned upon us, a lot of otome fans in the west were left in the dark after Sony’s big announcement on shutting down production of physical PS Vita games. With this shocking news at hand, localization companies such as Idea Factory Intl. and Aksys Games, who are known for bringing popular otome titles to the west has ceased to announce any otome games this year.

So where does that leave us otome fans?
While there are still a lot of otome games that are digitally making their way to the west through different media (PC, Steam, mobile, and Switch), this post will be touching on the ones that are available in the Nintendo Switch console.

Haha if you’re someone who’s uncomfortable with that, it may be best to stay out of this game.^^;;

Comments: This game had great voice acting. That’s it. The story is bad and translations are the worst.

Comments: This game wasn’t so bad. It had some good routes worth checking out and the art style was really beautiful. But since all the main characters were younger high school teens, the game didn’t appeal to me as much.

Iris School of Wizardry – Vinculum Hearts

Comments: Just like Ayakoi, the translations were pretty bad in this game but the story itself was fairly decent. I loved the game’s shoujo manga art style and I believe I’ve enjoyed a couple of routes on this one.

Kitty Love – Way to look for love

If you haven’t played the game yet, this one’s definitely a gem. When it comes to the character arcs and story-line, I cannot recommend Nightshade enough! Ask other Nightshade fans and they’ll tell you the same thing! ha! (*´▽`*)

Comments: Collar x Malice is finally out on the switch! This game is my absolute favorite otome title! The romance is pretty darn good, yes… but it’s actually the storyline that’ll leave you completely immersed! For the life of me, I recommend this game 100%!
