Developers, ©Medium recently announced their first game, a visual novel titled Chronicles of Refugia, featuring stellar staff like Takako Kano (Diabolik Lovers, Tiny x Machinegun, Ken ga Kimi), as the director and one of their main writers, and popular Otome Game Illustrator Kazuki Yone (main artist for otome games like Kamigami no Asobi, Hakuoki, and Hiro no Kakera). Chronicles of Refugia will be released through an episodic format in Steam this coming 2022.
STORY
In the year 23XX, the world as we know it has come to an end.
Global warming has caused the sea levels to rise, submerging coastal cities in every nation—a mass extinction event that forever changed life on what remains on the surface.
This extreme climate change sparked violent conflicts in which android soldiers and drone strikes destroyed even more of the land. Now that the last dregs of humanity live within the confines of designated shelters, for the first time, they are forced to accept outsiders to secure their own safety.
You see, not everyone who looks normal on the outside is human on the inside. And while the rest of the world sleeps, these non-humans are slowly taking over…
CHARACTERS
WORLD

Hourei Island
A territorial island belonging to some Asian country. Currently leased to the All Blood Conservation Agency for 99 years with Alice as the property manager. The name Hourei Island was recently coined, so on a map it’s listed as something else. The island itself is very small—just one square mile in size.
Wonderland Casino Club
A casino furnished with vintage equipment. The pagoda-style building is located on the southeast side of the island. Most of the clientele who show up each night are wealthy humans seeking real-life entertainment and companionship.
Millennium Kitchen
A restaurant located in the shopping district. Believe it or not, this low-class joint has great food and a lot of repeat customers. Casino employees eat for free, so they often gather here on their days off.
Boutique Х
A clothing store located on a quiet corner of the shopping district that also offers a tailoring service. The island residents like to gossip about the eccentric owner, but secretly, they love the store.
Mad Hat Teahouse
A tea parlor located in the mountains a short distance from the casino. The interior is calm and relaxing, with private sun rooms available. But this teahouse takes a lot of sporadic days off—which is to say, it’s hardly ever open for business.
Wildcat Theater
Located in the casino basement, this theater offers a variety of performances, from stage plays to live music—whatever the managing director feels like that day. But the theater’s chronically shorthanded, so they regularly put out Help Wanted ads.
Club Aparecida
A bar located inside the casino, connected to the main floor by a spiral staircase. The bartender barely talks, so the bar tends to attract customers looking for a little peace and quiet.
