Otome Games in Nintendo Switch (English) ~Updated Version~

Since the Vita apocalypse has finally dawned upon us, a lot of otome fans in the west were left in the dark after Sony’s big announcement on shutting down production of physical PS Vita games. With this shocking news at hand, localization companies such as Idea Factory Intl. and Aksys Games, who are known for bringing popular otome titles to the west has ceased to announce any otome games this year.

So where does that leave us otome fans?
While there are still a lot of otome games that are digitally making their way to the west through different media (PC, Steam, mobile, and Switch), this post will be touching  on the ones that are available in the Nintendo Switch console.

Below I’ll be listing down all otome titles that are currently available in the Eshop (NA and EU):

The Men of Yoshiwara: Kikuya

0000kikuya
Game Review
Voiced? NO
Price: 19.99 USD
Chlo’s Rating: 5/10

Comments: I personally, liked this game because of its *cough* steamy content and beautiful art. Some routes were great, while others were boring. It is a bit expensive though for a non voiced tittle.
Recommended routes: Kagura, Kagerou, Takao.

The Men of Yoshiwara: Oghiya

0000oghiya
Game Review (in progress)
Voiced? NO
Price: 14.99 USD
Chlo’s Rating: NA

Comments: In terms of the game’s sound and mechanics, I find this one better than the first Yoshiwara series. Story-wise, I’ve only finished Takigawa’s route so I can’t really spell out any thoughts if this game was better than its predecessor. I do like Oghiya MC more than Kikuya MC.

The Charming Empire

0000charming
Game Review
Voiced? YES
Price: 24.99 USD
Chlo’s Rating: 4/10

Comments: The only things I liked about this game were the voice actors and the artwork. The story was super bland and most of the routes ended in a rush.
Recommended Routes: Kei Yoshimine, Soshi Amazaki

Pub Encounters “Dandy Shot”

0000pub
Game Review (in progress)
Voiced? NO
Price: 16.99 USD
Chlo’s Rating: NA

Comments: I kept putting this game down for some reason lol. I’ve been hearing a few mixed reviews regarding Dandy Shot (Pub Encounters). Most of the reviews were actually quite good, as long as you don’t mind romancing older men (chuckles). I’ve only finished Yuze Ryunosuke’s route, he’s the tsundere and his story wasn’t so bad.

Destiny Princess

0000detiny
Game Review (in progress)
Voiced? NO
Price: 14.99 USD
Chlo’s Rating: NA

Comments: One gripe I have for this game was that, because it was a mobile port the CGs on the Switch looked really weird and stretched. The game has an interesting prologue and I’ve actually enjoyed its steamy content.^^; I’ve finished three routes so far. Some were good, while others were meh.
Recommended Routes: Nobunaga

The Amazing Shinsengumi

0000amashin
Game Review (in progress)
Voiced? NO
Price: 11.99 USD
Chlo’s Rating: NA

Comments:  I’ve played the game’s prologue and it was boring as heck. I haven’t started a route yet but based on hearsay (from the otome community), this game apparently borders a bit on “rapey” scenarios? Haha if you’re someone who’s uncomfortable with that, it may be best to stay out of this game.^^;;

Ayakashi Koi Gikyoku

slide_keyvisual4
Game Review
Voiced? YES
Price: 24.99 USD
Chlo’s Rating: 3/10

Comments: This game had great voice acting. That’s it. The story is bad and translations are the worst.
**Edit: A recent patch update was released for this game fixing the horrid translations.

Gakuen Club

gakuennnclub
Game Review
Voiced? YES
Price: 24.99 USD
Chlo’s Rating: 5/10

Comments: This game wasn’t so bad. It had some good routes worth checking out and the art style was really beautiful. But since all the main characters were younger high school teens, the game didn’t appeal to me as much.
Recommended Routes: Saku Takizawa, Toma Sakai

Iris School of Wizardry – Vinculum Hearts

H2x1_NSwitchDS_IrisSchoolofWizardryVinculumHearts_image1600wGame Review
Voiced? YES
Price: 24.99 USD
Chlo’s Rating: 5/10

Comments: Just like Ayakoi, the translations were pretty bad in this game but the story itself was fairly decent. I loved the game’s shoujo manga art style and I believe I’ve enjoyed a couple of routes on this one.
Recommended Routes: Matias, A-Jay, Iris
***Edit: A recent patch was released fixing the game’s English translations! ^^

Kitty Love – Way to look for love

eb50ae2fb02cf04ea7bc39f49c896934ca64825f_s2_n1
Game Review
Voiced: YES
Price: 24.99 USD
Chlo’s Rating: 6/10

Comments: Again, the game’s english subs needed proofreading. However, I was able to chug it all up because the story was so cute. The game’s art style, music, voice acting, and enjoyable stories were its redeeming qualities.
Recommended Routes: Kohei, Takuma

Nightshade

0c860e8c-1e5e-4eb3-9bd7-33abf2bc076bGame Review
Voiced: YES
Price: 47.99 USD
Chlo’s Rating: 8/10

Comments: (Edited) If you’re having second thoughts whether or not it’s worth shelling out 50 bux to get this game in your Switch Library. Here’s my advice: GET IT! If you haven’t played the game yet, this one’s definitely a gem. When it comes to the character arcs and story-line, I cannot recommend Nightshade enough! Ask other Nightshade fans and they’ll tell you the same thing! ha! (*´▽`*)
Recommended Routes: ALL

Enchanted in the Moonlight (Miyabi, Kyoga & Samon)

Enchanted-in-the-Moonlight-2
Game Review (in progress)
Voiced: NO
Price: 19.99 USD
Chlo’s Rating: NA

Comments: Haven’t really touched this game at all even in mobile but I’d expect the story is just about the same quality as any voltage mobile otome game would have. This game series has a good amount of fan base though, so maybe that’s telling something? ┐(‘~` )┌

Game Review
Voiced: YES
Price: 39.99 USD
Chlo’s Rating: 9/10

Comments: First Otomate title that was ported on the Switch console. It’s one of the first otome games I’ve played in the Vita and I was sooo happy when I heard it’s finally coming to the Switch. Get this game if you can! You won’t be disappointed. I promise!

Price: 39.99 USD
Chlo’s Rating: 8/10

Comments: An awesome (fandisc) sequel to the first Code Realize series. If you’re thirsty for more adventures with Cardia and Lupin’s Gang, take my advice and get this game! This fandisc will also feature Finis and Sholme’s very own routes.

My Secret Pets

Game Review (in progress)
Voiced: NO
Price: 14.99
Chlo’s Rating: NA

Comments:
I use to have the the mobile version of this game and I’ve only played Lufna’s (the cat) route. It’s alright. The story (for that one route) is kinda underwhelming. I might try and finish the rest of the routes one day  (playing the switch version) and write a review but If you’re planning to get this game, maybe get Yoshiwara instead or get this when its on sale.

Closet Princess

Screen Shot 2020-05-04 at 11.54.27 AM

Game Review (in progress)
Voiced: NO (partial only)
Price: 24.99
Chlo’s Rating: NA

Comments: Don’t be fooled by this game’s eshop decription as “voiced” because IT’S NOT! The game is partially voiced, by partial, I mean you’ll only hear the seiyuu’s yelps and grunts lmao! Honestly, not worth its full price! This game is also a straight up mobile port and nothing new has been added to it in the console version.

COLLAR X MALICE

2018-05-07-203317

Game Review
Voiced: YES
Price: 39.99 USD
Chlo’s Rating: 10/10

Comments: Collar x Malice is finally out on the switch! This game is my absolute favorite otome title! The romance is pretty darn good, yes… but it’s actually the storyline that’ll leave you completely immersed! For the life of me, I recommend this game 100%!

  1. It’s really sad that the PS Vita get’s No more otomegames 😦 i really loved the otomegames on my Vita *-* i hope that the otomate Switch Games are comming to the west (Europe xD) (sorry for my bad english. i’m from Germany)

    1. I feel you, I love my otoges in the vita to heart! Lol and I still have a couple on my list I wanted localized, ah well! :’3 Crossing fingers we’ll get the these Otomate titles soon. I have low hopes for next year but perhaps two yrs after? ^^ Oh and It’s always awesome finding ppl around the world supporting this genre! ❤

  2. As I understand most Otoge fans main way of playing the bigger titles was the Playstation Vita, so I can emphathize with the sadness and the initial anger that there will be no more physical releases for the Vita. But personally I am very happy with the future focus on the Nintendo Switch (as it gains more and more popularity in Japan as the main console). I got interested in Otome games in a serious way only about a year ago, so I haven’t had the time (or money) to play all the popular and famous ones (not even Amnesia and Hakuoki…). My problem is that I never had a Vita and with the purchase of a Switch last year I can’t really buy a one now. And I don’t really like to play on the PC. So I really hope that Idea Factory, Aksys and all the others will port the older games to the Switch, too (Limited Editions would be amazing, but I don’t think they would do it T-T).

Thank you for this list and the short reviews on these titles. I’ll definitely be checking out the Yoshiwara games and The Charming Empire (mainly because Toshiyuki Toyonaga voices one of the characters 😛 ). At first I wasn’t really interested in Kitty Love, but thanks to your review from a few days ago, I’ll be checking it out, too.

    1. I totally get you. It’s surely a waste now to invest on a dying console knowing there arent any games on your niche coming to it in the future. I have friends who never owned a vita and are facing the same delimma.^^; I’m also with you w/ regards to playing otoges on PC, Im not really a fan of it either as I think Visual Novels are best enjoyed handheld lol

Here’s to hoping we get more Switch titles announced in the future (I’m at least hoping one big title for 2019 from these companies – but its a long shot!) :’3

  3. There’s also London Detective Mysteria coming for the PSVita! HERE! http://www.ladymysteria.com/
Although, it was planned to release Fall 2018 and we still have to see it’s release. Idk what’s going on with XSEED games, but it seems like they’re having issues. Read more here: https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2018/10/27/xseed-localization-producers-leave-suddenly/

Anyway, it’s kinda bad for Nintendo to pump out otome games without going through proper QC. I wish they’d take time to correct the translations and whatnot; if they’re trying to lure in the otome game fans, then they’d better improve on it.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Ah, that’s right! Although Mysteria will only get a digital release I believe. Hopefully the game will be out this winter. ^^

Haha Your’re right on Nintendo’s Quality Control. I’ve seen a lot of crappy games w/ bad translations in the eshop lately. I dont mind action games but they could’ve at least did QC on visual novels. ( ° ∀ ° )ノ゙

  4. Hello, I don’t have a WordPress but I have been following this blog through email subscription. Thank you for posting this. I just purchased a Switch yesterday and was looking for a few selections of otome games online so this list really helped me decide on what to get. I like your reviews a lot, its fun to read a game review with less negativity since most otome reviewers likes to trash even the littlest aspect of the games an& it discourages players sometimes, its good that this site doesn’t! hope you’ll keep up the effort and good work!

    1. Hi, Im really grateful for this comment! Thank you!! T-T

I try not to be too harsh on my reviews or trash the games completely cause I know game developers put so much effort into creating games, I do however call em out if they messed up an obvious error e.g. the machine translations from previous games I reviewed.
I’ll try my very best to keep this site up for ya’ll. It’s comments like these that keeps me motivated! Thanks again, and enjoy your new switch!

  5. Is there an English version for the NORN9 LOFN (Nintendo Switch)? I was looking for some but I don’t think I found any.. Do you by any chance know if they will at all?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Unfortunately, NORN9 LOFN for Nintendo Switch is Japanese only. Otomate has yet to localize any of their games for the Switch. :(( The only Norn9 English version available is the one in the PS VITA console. Hope this helps! ^^ Link here: https://amzn.to/2TLeyVa
There are no news at this time if Aksys will localize NORN9 for the Switch. It’s a long shot but here’s to hoping! :’3

  7. Hi!

Thanks for this! I’m new to this genre and I’m not sure what you meant by “localized”. Are all the titles mentioned above in English, if I buy them via the provided links? Even though, it’s a Japanese website? Or are all games on CDjapan.co.jp available in English? Will there be an option to switch languages within the game then?

Thank you and keep up the good work! 🙂

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Hi Bubblyn! “Localized” means (the games are) “translated in English”. Unfortunately, the 12 titles I’ve listed above (with the CD Japan links) are only available in Japanese language and there’s NO English option available for you to switch. 😦

Hopefully, localization companies decide to bring some of these titles to us in the future. It’s a long shot but we’re all crossing our fingers! lol Thanks for this comment! Good to have more new people in the otome community! ❤

  8. Very informative post that will help a lot of Switch owners. I’ll still hold onto my vita until it dies because a lot of these ports are shitty mobile games rofl but I know that Iris School of Wizardry is supposed to be a good one. It’s a shame that Nightshade won’t get a physical release. I wonder why that is. If the same translations were in the JPN copy I’d pick that up.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Aww thanks Leafy! ❤ Portability wise, the Vita still wins for me tbh, the Switch is just really bulky… and yeah I wouldn't advise getting a switch for the sole purpose of playing otoges atm cause most of these titles aren’t good lol and almost all of 'em are PC/mobile ports… some of the Operahouse games that were ported to the switch have shitty translations too (T_T) It's rly sad that were getting copped out of the good titles because of the sudden console change where localization companies are not sure if they'll be making good sales. I think this was also the case with Nightshade, where the physical release is only available in Japan… D3P Intl. was prob iffy on how the physical copy would sell in the West, knowing that the game already had an available PC port.

  9. Aaaa, I’m so sad about this. QQ I recently just purchased a Vita since all of the Otome games I wanted were only available for the Vita. I’m finishing up Collar x Malice and was looking to purchase Unlimited but realized only the Japanese version is available and then I happened to find your article. (I ended up purchasing the Japanese version cause I’m just way too impatient to wait for it to be localized lol ; n 😉 Hopefully we see releases for the Switch! I already played through Nightshade and it was worth every penny!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yay! Im glad you enjoyed Nightshade too! I did the same thing with CxM Unlimited cause I was under the impression that it’ll never get localized and got impatient, lol I’m still under that impression it’ll never get here tho :((

  10. Hello! It’s nice to see this post. I was playing otome games on PC and thinking to buy PS Vita since many of otome games are on vita, but then I saw an article that said PS Vita are shutting their production. So I guess it’s wise to bought switch over vita?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. The switch is an awesome console that currently provides you a huge library of game selections. However, if you’re only purpose of buying a switch is to play otome games in it, I would suggest on waiting first since most localized otome games on the switch arent as *good* compared to the ones localized in the vita platform. So far, we have zero game announcements this year since companies believe there’s no market for these niche games in the West. 😥

On the other hand, if you’re fluent in Japanese, i’d say go for it since most big otome titles are getting ported to the switch nowadays in Japan anyway! 😀

    1. Hello! Thank you for this comment!
      It made my day! 😀
I don’t like to nitpick or trash a game so much because I believe no games, or visual novels for that matter, are perfect and there will always be flaws no matter what . I also know devs pour a lot of their time and hardwork making it, so I tend to cut em some slack! lol ^_^

I’m so glad you enjoyed Nightshade as much as I have! It’s one of my favs! ❤ Again, thanks for the lovely comment and for subscribing to this blog! (ノ´ヮ`)ノ*: ・゚

I wish they would have released it on playstation instead. they gave us grand edition for playstation, so Chaos needs to be released on playstation too. 18. It’s like the end of an era – the PSP, PS2, PS3, PS4 and Vita have been the home to basically all otome games, and Nintendo has taken the torch. Hopefully we’ll see localizations of a lot of classics, finally – UtaPri, Kuni no Alice, Diabolik, Hiiro no Kakera, Corda, and Harukanaru, to name a few I’d like to see.

I don’t have a Switch and have no plans to get one, so I hope that as with many of the above games, we’ll see Steam releases in the future.
